End of year Reflections

This year I have learned a lot in Geography, Translations, Pro numerals Algebra and Statistics. I have learned how to do a lot of the graphs and how to put data into graphs and chats. I also Learned how to use Pythagoras’s theory. My attitude has not changed that much.

In English I learned how to write short stories, recounts, note taking, report,narrative, showing not telling and persuasive writing. I also learned how to punctuate properly. My attitude towards reading is good but not so much towards writing.

In Art I drew a VW Combi college and a beach scene. In hard materials I made a box in the shape of a guitar for my guitar stuff. In Soft Materials made a hoodie and in Music I wrote a song. In Food we cooked a lot of dishes and made our own cafe with three courses meal and in Science we learned about chemical reactions.

Some other activity’s I have been in are Symphonic band, Jazz band and guitar.

Term 3 Week 8

This week was Maori language week to celebrate this we spent the whole day up at tech arts. In design I made a bull roarer. A bull roarer is a oval shaped piece of wood attached to a string that when you swing above your head rotates and makes a whirring noise hence the name. I made mine using a scroll saw, sand paper and a poker work machine In fabric and science I made a plated bracelet and head band out of flax. To do this I needed to learn how to do a four plat and how to weave. At lunch time we had a huge boil up and every one had a job. I was one of the lucky ones and got a job folding napkins.

This week in Maths I learned how to find the hidden angles in triangles. First you need to add up the other two angles. Then you take that away from 180. I also learned that complementary angles add up to 90 degrees and supplementary angles add up to 180 degrees. In English I learned all about sentences. An interdependent clause is a part of a sentence that can be read with no other information while a dependent clause relies on additional information. A simple sentence has one independent clause. A compound sentence has two independent clause. A complex sentence has an independent clause and a dependent clause while a compound-complex has two independent clauses and one dependent clause. My goal for next week is to finish my maths. I will achieve this by not talking to people and staying on task.

Permanently.

Blood Ties is a dark book that is set in present day London but throughout the course of the book they visit Scotland and Washington D.C., America. One of the things I liked about Blood Ties is that the chapters are split between Theo and Rachel so you can see both sides of the story and see what it has been like for them. Another thing is that all their thoughts are included in the story so you can see what they are thinking. My favourite character is Lewis, Theo and Rachel’s friend and protector because he never gave up and did all he could do to help Rachel. I also liked Mel, because she was always positive and happy to Theo, even when she was getting mistreated by Elijah.

If there was something I could change about this book, it would be that they spent more time in the safe house in Scotland, because I wanted to know more about the main characters feelings and it was a bit too fast paced for me when they were kidnapped the next day. But the book would be too long so I know why the author did it. My least favourite character would have to be RAGE because they wanted to kill Theo and Rachel just because they were clones. I also disliked Elijah because he used violence and fear to force people to do things for him.

Sophie McKenzie has also written Girl, Missing and has three awards. The Richard and Judy’s Children’s Book winner 12+, Winner of the Red House Book Award older category and Winner of the Bolton Book Award. She has also written two other books, Six Steps to a Girl and Three’s a Crowd.

Blood Ties is an average book that I would recommend to 12-15 year olds. The themes for this book are family relationships, love, action, and prejudice. The mood of this book is sinister and dark because of all the dreadful things that had happened in the past. I give this book 6 out of 10 and would recommend it to any one who likes fast paced thriller novels.

This week in maths I learned how to Divide fractions. First you need the question e.g.½÷¼. Then you need to multiply by the reciprocal e.g.¼= 4/1. Then the question would be ½ x 4/1. Then you just do it across e.g. ½ x 4/1 = 4/2 simplified = 2/1 = 2. In English we learned how to note take and how to punctuate properly. In fabric I learned how to sew up a hood. My goal for next week is to type out my info for science fair.

This week in Maths I learned how to add and subtract fractions e.g. ½+¼= ¾. To do this you need change the denominators to the same number by multiplying the two denominators together or finding the lowest common multiple of the two. but how ever many times you change the denominator you need to remember to change the numerator e.g. ½ = ²/4. Then add them together e.g. ²/4+ ¼=¾. In English I learned how to punctuate proper and how to find the sentence topic. The sentence topic is a sentence in a paragraph that explanes what the paragraph is about. My goal for next week is to plan my jersey in sewing.

This week in Fabric tech I learned the international washing signs and what in the right side of polo fleece and what is the wrong side. I also learned a lot about Greek myths e.g. Jason and the golden fleece, Hercules and Theseus. The reason I didn’t learn much this week was because I was sick. My goal fro next week is to finish my book review.

Term 2 Week 3

This week I learned how to do tree diagrams in maths. Say you had three options of chocolate A,B,C and you could have a fizzy drink D or E with that chocolate. The options would be AD, AE, BD, BE, CD and CE. This week I also relearend how to do Anagrams. You have a sentance e.g. Cried about an alcoholic drink. You need to take the word before the word in bold and then make a word out of those letters that match the discrition after the bold word e.g. cider. In dance tech I learnd how to cannon. It means to repeat the move that some one else in you group is doing . My goal for next week is to get started on my since fair project, talking to plants.
